The compositions can be fed to any mammalian or avian 10 species including, but not limited to, bovine, equine, ovine, caprine and avian species. When admixed with the feed or food or fed as a supplement, the composition can be used to regulate (e.g., up-regulate or down-regulate) one or more gastrointestinal genes, such as to induce or enhance energy metabolism genes, nutrient transport genes, or a combination thereof.
