Disclosed is a method of improving the gastrointestinal health of a non-human subject comprising administering to the non-human subject a composition comprising â- glucans, â-1,3(4)- endoglucanohydrolase, diatomaceous earth, a mineral clay, and glucomannan, wherein said administration modulates the expression levels of one or more of the gastrointestinal genes listed in FIGS. 1 and/or 2 as compared to expression levels of the one or more gastrointestinal genes in the absence of the composition thereby improving the gastrointestinal health of said subject, wherein the composition comprises between about 15% and 40% diatomaceous earth, between about 50% and 80% mineral clay, between about 1.0% and 5.0% â-glucans, between about 0.05% and 3.0% â-1,3(4) endoglucanohydrolase, and between about 1.0% and 8.0% glucomannan.
