The invention provides a method for the determination of the state of an entity, in particular the state of health of a human being or animal, comprising: - contacting secreted compounds or related reaction products with a surface provided to this end, the surface being linked to an optical waveguide in such a way that compounds binding to the surface can influence the propagation of light in the waveguide determining the occurring influence by means of an optical interferometric measuring principle and - deducing the state from the occurring influence. The invention further provides a device for the determination of such a state. Such a method and device can be applied with advantage in particular to determine the diabetic condition of a human being or animal.La présente invention se rapporte à un procédé permettant de déterminer létat dun être vivant, en particulier létat de santé dun être humain ou dun animal. Le procédé selon linvention consiste : à mettre des composés sécrétés ou des produits de réaction associés en contact avec une surface fournie à cet effet, ladite surface étant liée à un guide dondes optique de façon que les composés se liant à la surface puissent influencer la propagation de la lumière dans le guide dondes à déterminer linfluence produite à laide dun principe de mesure interférométrique optique et à déduire ledit état de linfluence produite. Linvention a également trait à un dispositif permettant de déterminer un tel état. Les procédé et dispositif selon linvention peuvent être avantageusement appliqués en particulier pour déterminer létat diabétique dun être humain ou dun animal.
