Disclosed herein is an antibacterial cleansing composition. The cleansing composition is free of triclosan and comprises lactic acid/lactate and ethyl alcohol. Lactic acid/lactate is present in the composition in an amount of about 5 weight percent (wt %) to about 15 wt %, based on the total weight of the composition. Ethyl alcohol is present in an amount of about 1 wt % to about 20 wt %, based on the total weight of the composition. The pH of the composition is about 4 to about 5. The triclosan-free cleansing composition according to the invention has broad spectrum antibacterial activity that equals or even surpasses comparable formulations containing triclosan.Linvention concerne une composition nettoyante antibactérienne. La composition nettoyante est exempte de triclosane et comporte de lacide lactique/lactate et de lalcool éthylique. La quantité dacide lactique/lactate présent dans la composition est denviron 5 pour cent en poids (% en poids) à environ 15 % en poids, sur la base du poids total de la composition. La quantité dalcool éthylique présent est denviron 1 % en poids à environ 20 % en poids, sur la base du poids total de la composition. Le pH de la composition est denviron 4 à environ 5. La composition nettoyante exempte de triclosane selon la présente invention présente une activité antibactérienne à large spectre qui est égale à des formulations comparables contenant du triclosane ou même qui les surpasse.
