In some embodiments, the invention provides an in vitro method for identifying a patient as likely as likely to require a transfusion of at least six units of blood in six hours or less. The method comprise, consists essentially of, or consists of (a) analyzing a sample of blood from a patient with a viscoelastic analysis assay to obtain a coagulation characteristic value that is independent of time of the patient and (b) comparing the coagulation characteristic value of the patient to a coagulation characteristic value that is independent of time of a control, wherein the coagulation characteristic value of the patient that is lower than the coagulation characteristic value of the control identifies the patient as likely to require a transfusion of at least six units of blood in six hours or less.Dans certains modes de réalisation, linvention concerne un procédé in vitro pour identifier un patient comme étant susceptible davoir besoin dune transfusion dau moins six unités de sang en six heures ou moins.
