The present invention relates to methods for the killing of infectious bacteria by modulating the extra-cellular concentration of bacterial cell signalling molecules. This has the effect of inducing rapid cell death (autolysis) in the majority of bacterial cells, and preventing virulence or restoring a benign state in surviving cells. These receptors have applications for the treatment of individuals with susceptibility to infection, the treatment of patients with existing infections, in disease management, and in related applications where the host for infection is an animal or plant. The compositions described herein are particularly relevant to Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection, for example in the treatment of pulmonary infection in cystic fibrosis patients, and represent a unique bactericidal medication that does not directly target the bacteria.본 발명은 세균 세포 밖에서 신호분자의 농도를 조절하여 감염성 세균을 사멸시키는 방법에 관한 것이다. 이로 인해 세균 세포 대부분에서 빠른 세포 사멸(자가분해)을 유도되고, 세균 독성의 발생을 막거나 생존 세포가 양호한 상태로 회복된다. 본 발명의 수용체는 질병관리에 있어서 감염되기 쉬운 개체의 감염 예방, 감염된 환자의 치료제로 이용될 수 있으며, 감염 숙주가 동물 또는 식물인 경우 모두 적용될 수 있다. 본 발명에서는 상기 조성물을 녹농균 감염과 관련하여 낭성섬유증의 폐 감염의 치료, 세균을 직접 표적으로 하지않는 특별한 세균 치료에 대하여 구체적으로 기술하였다.
