A combination composition comprising as active components, in synergistically effective amounts of (i) a steroidal saponin of natural or synthetic origin, a pharmaceutical acceptable salt thereof or a plant extract containing steroidal saponin, and (ii) at least a first polyphenolic compound selected from the group consisting of hydroxycinnamic acids, flavonoids, hydroxybenzoic acids, and (iii) optionally, a second polyphenolic compound, wherein the second polyphenolic compound is hydroxycinnamic acids and its use in preventing, inhibiting, retarding or treating a subject suffering from a neurodegenerative disease or condition.
