A method and apparatus for applying pressure to the abdomen of a patient to facilitate the insertion of a colonoscope is characterized by the use of a tensile compression device in the form of an elastic band which is wrapped around the patient's abdomen and secured in place. The tension of the band is adjusted to apply a desired degree of pressure to the patient's abdomen to reduce loops in the patient's colon so that the colonoscope can be fully inserted into the colon with minimal discomfort to the patient. The ends of the device are connected together when the desired degree of tension is obtained so that constant pressure and support are provided to the patient's colon. Addition pressure can be manually applied simultaneously with the pressure from the tensile device to reduce or eliminate more distal loops in the colon.결장경의 삽입을 용이하게 하기 위해 환자의 복부에 압박을 가하는 방법 및 장치는 환자의 복부 주위를 감싸 제자리에 고정하는 탄성 밴드로 형성되는 인장성 압박 장치를 사용하는 것을 특징으로 한다. 상기 밴드의 장력은 환자의 복부에 적당한 압력이 가해져서 환자의 결장에 루프를 감소시킴으로써 결장경이 환자에게 최소의 불쾌감을 주면서 완전히 삽입될 수 있도록 조정된다. 원하는 정도의 장력을 획득하였을 때 일정한 압력 및 지지가 환자의 결장에 제공될 수 있도록 상기 장치의 양 끝단은 서로 연결되어 있다. 결장에 원위 루프를 감소시키거나 제거하기 위해 인장 장치로부터 가해지는 압력과 동시에 수동으로 추가적인 압력이 가해질 수 있다.
