Methods and apparatus for the study of gastrointestinal transit in a human or animal subject. The method being for the study of a subject which has previously ingested a container containing first and second fluids that are detectable and distinguishable by MRI, which method comprises the steps of forming a first magnetic resonance image of at least a portion of the subjects GI tract in which the container is located, wherein the magnetizations of the first and second fluids are in-phase forming a second magnetic resonance image, coincident with the first image, wherein the magnetizations of the first and second fluids are out-of-phase and subtracting the second image from the first image, or vice versa, to form a composite image.Linvention concerne des procédés et un appareil utilisables en vue de létude du transit gastro-intestinal chez un sujet humain ou animal. Le procédé peut être utilisé en vue de létude dun sujet ayant précédemment ingéré un récipient contenant des premier et second fluides pouvant être détectés et distingués par IRM. Ce procédé comprend les étapes consistant à former une première image par résonance magnétique dau moins une partie du tractus gastro-intestinal du sujet dans laquelle se trouve le récipient, image dans laquelle les aimantations des premier et second fluides sont en phase à former une seconde image par résonance magnétique, coïncidant avec la première image, mais dans laquelle les aimantations des premier et second fluides ne sont plus en phase et à soustraire la seconde image de la première image, ou inversement, pour obtenir une image composite.
