The purpose of the present invention is to provide a disposable diaper having a slit (45) in the upper end of an abdomen side waist section (40) where the slit (45) is less likely to irritate the skin of a wearer when the diaper is worn. The disposable diaper has a longitudinal direction a lateral direction and a thickness direction intersecting one another and has a waist section to be positioned around the waist of the wearer. The disposable diaper is characterized in that the waist section has an inner layer sheet (41) and an outer layer sheet (42) which are overlapped and bonded to each other in the thickness direction the slit (45) is provided at the center in the lateral direction of the waist section on the abdomen side and at the upper end in the longitudinal direction and at least one of an adhesive for bonding the inner layer sheet (41) and the outer layer sheet (42) and an adhesive for bonding the inner layer sheet or the outer layer sheet and another member is not provided in at least an area of an edge (46) along the outer edge of the slit (45) on the abdomen side of the waist section.
