Lighting system for use in an operating theatre comprising a lighthead (1), which is constituted by a frame (5； 51, 52, 53, 54) fitted with a plurality of elongated mounting supports (2； 21, 22) being provided with a plurality of light elements (3； 31, 32, 33) containing at least one light emitting diode (31), whereby the mounting supports (2) are organized in at least two groups (21, 22) including at least two mounting supports (21； 21 1 , 21 2 ； 22； 22 1 , 22 2 ), whereof the first group (21) is set on a first level (A-A) and the second group on a second level (B-B), such that the mounting supports of each group are apart or spaced by a gap (4； 4a, 4b) from each other and that the first group's mounting supports (21) lie at an angle relative to the second group's (22) mounting supports.
