PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image inspection method and an image inspection apparatus based on noise quantity evaluation of a chest radiograph with a digitized image in order to make the best use of an advantage of digitized X-ray equipment.

SOLUTION: The inspection method for a front chest radiograph includes the following steps of: extracting a lower mediastinal part of the lung as a region of interest (ROI) from the front chest radiograph calculating noise quantity of an image in the ROI and comparing the noise quantity with a predetermined reference value and transmitting the object image when the noise quantity is small. Extraction of the ROI is carried out as follows: (1) a vertical center line of the lung field is acquired (2) the upper lung field border and the lower lung field border are extracted for right and left regions of the vertical center line of the lung field (3) The center point of ROI is acquired from the right and left upper and lower lung field borders and the vertical center line of the lung field and (4) a region with a predetermined pixel size around the center point is determined as the ROI.
