The invention relates to a device for separating, and maintaining a distance between, a persons face and a protective eye mask worn on a helmet. The device is formed by two symmetrical elements disposed on each side of the helmet. Each element is formed by a flap (1) hinged to a support (2) by means of a rotation shaft (2). When the flap is positioned to the rear, the strap can be positioned normally.
