The invention relates to a method for recovering iron and carbon components from washing tower sludges, wherein a washing tower sludge is mixed with an acid-containing solution and then a reaction is performed so that an acidic aqueous iron-rich phase and a carbon-rich phase are obtained. Both phases are then separated from one another. The acid-aqueous iron-rich phase is processed such that an iron component, in particular iron (III) oxide, is obtained.
