Disclosed is the use of a honeybee repellent to repel a honeybee from a location or structure by applying the honeybee repellent to the location, the structure and/or in a vicinity nearby the location or the structure, wherein the honeybee repellent has a repellent activity that substantially mimics a repellent chemosensory cue of 2-heptanone, and wherein the honeybee repellent has a half-life of at least one day. Examples of honey bee repellents are: 1-benzyl-4-(4-methoxy-2,3-dimethylbenzyl) piperazine, 1-[(6-nitro-1,3-benzodioxol-5- yl)methyl]-4-phenylpiperazine, 1-(1,3-benzodioxol-5-ylmethyl)-4-(4,5-dimethoxy-2-nitrobenzyl) piperazine and 1-(3-chlorophenyl)-4-[(6-nitro-1,3-benzodioxol-5-yl)methyl]piperazine.
