Disclosed is the use of a honeybee repellent to repel a honeybee from a location or structure by applying the honeybee repellent to the location, the structure and/or in a vicinity nearby the location or the structure, wherein the honeybee repellent has a repellent activity that substantially mimics a repellent chemosensory cue of 2-heptanone, and wherein the honeybee repellent has a half-life of at least one day. Examples of honey bee repellents are an optionally substituted 1-(4-methoxyphenyl)-3-(1-methyl-1H-indol-3-yl)-2-propen-1-one, an optionally substituted (4-bromophenyl)(5-methoxy-2-methyl-1-benzofuran-3-yl)methanone or any combination thereof.
