The capsule endoscope houses a flexible substrate wherein the lighting substrate unit, first wiring substrate unit, image pickup element substrate unit, second wiring substrate unit, and signal processing substrate unit are integrally formed in a shape wherein the substrate units are aligned in this order in a row. The capsule endoscope is provided with a lighting control circuit that has: a lighting control signal output unit that outputs lighting control signals for controlling light emission of the light emitting elements that are provided in a lighting unit and a lighting drive unit that drives each of the light emitting elements corresponding to the lighting control signals inputted from the lighting control signal output unit.
