The invention provides novel pyridines, pharmaceutical compositions comprisingsuch pyridines, and the use of suchcompositions in treating injured mammalian nerve tissue, including but notlimited to an injured spinal cord in one embodiment, thecompounds, compositions, and methods of the instant invention treat amammalian nerve tissue injury by restoring action potentialor nerve impulse conduction through a nerve tissue lesion. Significantly, invivo application of compounds of the instant inventionestablished, on the basis of SSEP testing, that the compounds provide longerlasting effects at lower concentrations than comparabletreatment with the known agent 4-aminopyridine (4 AP).
