A locator for a surgical port, the locator comprising: a base 84 for attachment to a portion of a patient support 76; an interface 82 for coupling to the surgical port 76; a support mechanism 80 linking the base 84 and the interface 82, the support mechanism 80 permitting at least one of translational and rotational movement of the interface 82 relative to the base 84; and a controller for controlling at least one of the position and orientation of the interface 82 relative to the base 84 in dependence on the position of the robot arm.
