PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an endoscope which has an image pickup device at a distal end of the endoscope for simultaneously capturing normal images and magnified images without increasing the size of the distal end of the endoscope.

SOLUTION: The distal end of an insertion portion of the endoscope is equipped with an introducing part for introducing light from a subject to the inside of the endoscope, a light splitting part which reflects the introduced light in the direction perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the endoscope and transmits light of an amount larger than the amount of the reflected light in the longitudinal direction of the endoscope, a first image pickup device for receiving the light reflected by the light splitting part, a second image pickup device for receiving the light transmitted by the light splitting part, and a zoom lens system provided between the light splitting part and the second image pickup device.
