The present invention relates to the treatment of skin defects byorganotypically-cultured autologous keratinocytes isolated from the outer rootsheath of anagen or growing hair. Methods for primary, as well as subsequentorganotypic cultures (i.e., epidermal equivalents) in fully-defined mediasupplemented by autologous human serum and substances isolated form bloodcomponents, with minimal allogeneic biological supplements, are disclosedherein. Techniques to prepare epidermal equivalents for transplantation by useof a biocompatible glue are also disclosed herein.
