PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent reversion in an absorbent article such as a pad type, pants type or tape type disposable diaper.SOLUTION: The disposable diaper includes: a top sheet 11 and vertical direction standing gathers 24 which are provided along an anteroposterior direction on both side parts of the article on a using surface side of the article, and whose inner side in a width direction is to be erected to a wearer side when worn. The top sheet is constituted of a plurality of unit sheets along the anteroposterior direction and arranged in such a state that adjacent ends of the unit sheets overlap with each other, horizontal direction standing gathers are provided with a stretch member so that the anteroposterior direction end of the unit sheet on the upper side in the overlapping state is erected to the wearer side when worn, and at least one are of an area covered with the vertical direction standing gathers and an area covered with the horizontal direction standing gathers transmits excreted liquid more easily than the sheet configuring the corresponding standing gathers and the non-covered unit sheets.
