An injection device 100 for injection of a medicament from a container 10 through a needle 16. The container 10 has a medicament containing body 12 and a stopper 22 driven by a plunger 300 for expelling medicament through needle 16. Device 100 comprises: a housing 110 a carrier 220 for receiving the body 12 and a drive mechanism 330, which when activated applies an insertion force to the container 10 moving it relative to the housing 110 from a starting to an insertion position. In a first embodiment, the carrier 220 comprises a retardation element 224 arranged to contact the body 12, thereby applying a frictional retardation force to the body 12 and thus retarding container 10 movement against the insertion force. Also a second embodiment where device 100 comprises an interlock 250 and a carrier lock for locking carrier 220 in an initial axial position when interlock 250 is in a first position and where carrier 220 is released from the initial axial position on interlock 250 moving to a second position. In a third embodiment, drive mechanism 330 comprises a trigger 200 and the device 100 also comprises an arrangement for preventing unintentional operation of trigger 200.
