The present invention relates to an autonomous wheelchair, and more specifically, to an autonomous wheelchair comprising: a lifting wheel positioned behind a driving wheel to push the wheelchair a steering wheel positioned in front of the driving wheel to determine a direction an upper backrest allowing a back plate to be tilted a footrest positioned in front of the steering wheel to support a foot and a cushion reducing impact to the wheel, thereby allowing a passenger to be able to go up the stairs for himself/herself without assistance of a companion. That is, according to the present invention, when using the autonomous wheelchair, the upper backrest is tilted backward, and the footrest is lifted such that the center of weight is concentrated backward. At this time, the cushion of the lifting wheel absorbs and supports impact. Thus, the driving wheel is driven frontward to go up the stairs.
