The method of treating a disorder in a human or animal subject may comprise heating a material comprising a compound at a first temperature to form a heated volume of the material. The method may further comprise heating the heated volume at a higher second temperature to form a volume of vapor comprising the compound. The method may also include administering to the subject a dose of the vapor to treat a disorder such as pain. The method may further comprise preheating the material at a preliminary temperature prior to heating at the first temperature.
