A method for estimating a thickness of tissueincludes receiving multiple measurements, eachmeasurement indicating (i) a respective mechanicalpressure applied to the tissue, and (ii) one or moreround-trip propagation times of an ultrasound wavetraversing the tissue in the presence of the respectivemechanical pressure. A set of the measurements isselected, having mechanical pressures that fall in aspecified partial subrange of mechanical-pressure values.The thickness of the tissue is estimated based on theround-trip propagation times in the selected set of themeasurements.
