PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photoacoustic imaging apparatus and a photoacoustic imaging method which enable imaging of tissues with optical-absorption coefficients higher and lower than that of a surrounding medium by discriminating them.SOLUTION: The photoacoustic imaging apparatus carrying out imaging of an opto-absorbing body has a light source, a detecter for detecting acoustic waves generated from the opto-absorbing body having received optical energy emitted from the light source, and a signal processing section for forming the image of the opto-absorbing body.
