The present invention relates to the field of polymer chemistry, and more particularly to multi-block copolymers and iron-stabilized micelles containing them as magnetic contrast agents. The compositions herein are useful for diagnostic and drug delivery applications. Iron ions and iron chelates generally do not exhibit superparamagnetic properties, which have been excluded from their use as contrast agents in magnetic imaging.
