The ultrasound probe of an ultrasonic diagnostic imaging system includes a motion sensor which senses probe motion. A sonographer uses the probe to scan a patient in the normal manner. To change a control setting of the ultrasound system, the sonographer can move the probe in a motion which is distinct from those commonly employed during scanning. The system responds to the distinctive motion by changing the system to a control mode. While in the control mode, the sonographer can use other probe motions, including those which are less distinct from scanning motions, to adjust system settings. The sonographer can return to the imaging mode by repeating the distinct motion or by placing the probe back into acoustic contact with the patient.Linvention concerne une sonde à ultrasons, dun système dimagerie de diagnostic à ultrasons, qui comprend un capteur de mouvement qui détecte un mouvement de sonde.
