The invention relates to a handle for a catheter (1) having an inner shaft (9) and a retractable shaft (8), wherein the handle (2) has - a housing (11), - a pull cable (18) and - a release button (4) mounted movably on the housing (11). In order to avoid a winding of the pull cable around the inner shaft, a sleeve (16) is secured in the housing (11) and a brake hose (17) is guided movably in the longitudinal direction in the continuous opening (21) of said sleeve, wherein the brake hose (17) has a first continuous opening (31) for arrangement of the pull cable (18) and a second continuous opening (32) for arrangement of the inner shaft (9), wherein the brake hose (17) is designed in such a way that its position relative to the sleeve (16) in a first state is fixed by means of the release button (4), and in that the brake hose (17) in a second state is displaceable after actuation of the release button (4) together with the pull cable (18) in the longitudinal direction of the sleeve (16) and relative to the sleeve (16) and the inner shaft (9) in the proximal direction in order to retract the retractable shaft (8), wherein the retractable shaft (8) can be connected to the pull cable (18). The invention also relates to a catheter (1) with a handle (2) of this kind and to a method for operating a catheter (1) of this kind.
