In order to provide an endoscope equipped with an illumination unit which can uniformly illuminate an entire observation region of a front field of view and a side field of view without obstructing a wide field of view, the present invention is equipped with: a first object lens (21) which forms an image of an object to be observed that is in front of an insertion part (2) a circular second object lens (22) which forms an image of an object to be observed that is at the side of the insertion part a first light guide (31a) which is disposed adjacent to the outer periphery of the second object lens, and which optically guides illuminating light towards the tip end of the insertion part a second light guide (32a) which is disposed at the base side of the second object lens, and which optically guides the illuminating light towards the tip end of the insertion part a front illumination lens (31) which is arranged so as to surround the outer peripheral side of the first object lens, which has optical directivity, and which comprises a ring-shaped annular optical part (31b), and a light guiding part (31c) that irradiates the annular optical part with the illuminating light and a side illumination lens (32) that includes a prism which emits the illuminating light to the side of the insertion part, and which also emits some of the illuminating light to the front of the insertion part.
