The present invention relates to a kind of for treating and preventing the valeriana extract of GABA associated diseases, preferably GABAA associated diseases (being more preferably selected from anxiety, depression, fidgety and insomnia), wherein the ratio of valerenic acid (VA) and acetoxyl group valerenic acid (AVA) are at least 2:1 in the extract. Invention also teaches the pharmaceutical composition comprising such extract and the methods for being used to prepare these extracts.
