A preparation comprising a paste or solution containing one or more essential oils and non-reducing sugar for application to wounds. The sugar is preferably sucrose and may be obtained from sugar beet or sugar cane. The sugar may have particles of equivalent size to granulated sugar caster sugar or icing sugar. The preparation may be applied to wounds to aid wound healing, reduce odour, and may have antibacterial, antifungal or antiviral properties. The preparation may also be applied to, or incorporated into dressings for application to wounds. The preparation may be used to treat wounds in humans or animals.
