An agricultural harvester (20,50) includes a chassis (22) at least one ground engaging traction member (24) held by the chassis (22) a cutter (28) held by the chassis (22) a sensor (52) held by the agricultural harvester (20,50) so that the sensor (52) is directed in front of the cutter (28) and configured to emit and receive sound and/or radio waves (54) and produce a plurality of output signals and an electrical processing circuit coupled to the sensor (52). The electrical processing circuit is configured to produce a field map from the plurality of output signals and adjust an operating parameter of the agricultural harvester (20,50) based on the field map.
