The endoscope according to the present invention is provided with an insertion part inserted into a subject, and is capable of causing a treatment instrument to protrude from the distal end of the insertion part, wherein the endoscope is provided with: a treatment instrument raising base for raising with respect to the direction in which the insertion part extends by rotation about a rotary shaft arranged at a distal-end part of the insertion part, the treatment instrument raising base being supported by the rotary shaft an operating part for inputting to the treatment instrument raising base an operation for changing the angle at which the treatment instrument is raised, the operating part being arranged on the proximal-end side of the insertion part a wire connected to the operating part and arranged along the direction in which the insertion part extends and an operation transmission mechanism for transmitting an operation to the treatment instrument raising base, the mechanism having a wire connection part connected to the wire, and the wire connection part being positioned on a reverse side from the side on which the treatment instrument is raised of a reference plane including the direction in which the insertion part extends and the direction along the axial center of the rotary shaft.
