The method involves carrying a single plant to a stop (46) in a cut chamber (44) by reciprocating an upper knife (20) along the stop during feed motion of garden scissors in the plant such that a lower knife (30) is supplied and cuts the plant. The upper knife is held at the lower knife by a blank holder (34). A cutting section is accelerated in the cut chamber by impact of the reciprocated upper knife with grass clippings. Length (50) of the cut chamber is 1.5 times width (52) of the cut chamber. An independent claim is also included for a garden scissors comprising a reciprocating knife.
