Provided is a rinsing agent for the oral cavity and pharynx which comprises water, a quaternary ammonium-based bactericide, a polyhydric alcohol, hydroxypropylcellulose, hypromellose and polyvinylpyrrolidone. When the chemical is allowed to stick to an affected part and remain therein for a definite period, this rinsing agent can continuously exert a bactericidal effect and relieve the unpleasantness in the throat over a long period of time.
