The present invention describes the formulation of amino acid surfactant based nanocarrier for drug targeting preferably for tumor targeting. The amino acid surfactant used herein is arginine based surfactant and the formulation may be nanoemulsion, self nano/micro emulsifying drug delivery system or vesicular system (liposomes, surfactant vesicle) etc. The amino acid surfactant based nanocarrier described herein gives potential advantages like incorporating all types of drugs water soluble, insoluble, partially soluble and macromolecular (DNA, siRNA, aptamers), enhanced the target efficiency of drugs and thereby improving therapeutic outcome at equal dose with minimizing the side effects. In another embodiment, industry feasible method of synthesis of amino acid surfactant with high purity has been described.
