An ECG monitoring system for ambulatory patients includes a small multi-electrode patch that adhesively attaches to the chest of a patient. A reusable battery-powered ECG monitor clips onto the patch and receives patient electrical signals from the electrodes of the patch. ECG data is sent to a cellphone handset which relays the data to a monitoring center. After the monitoring procedure is completed, the monitoring system kit of components is returned to a refurbishment center. The kit components are there serviced for use in another kit for a subsequent monitoring procedure. The servicing includes deleting patient data from the components, cleaning them, verifying their operability, and performing self-testing. At the conclusion of servicing the components are put back into inventory for use in a monitoring kit in the future.
