PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an anti-TNF-α agent and a liver protecting agent obtained from a ginseng fruit (Potentilla anserina tuberous root) which is a rosaceous plant, a medicine for a human or an animal, containing the anti-TNF-α agent or the liver protecting agent, and a new saponin compound and a polyphenol compound contained in the ginseng fruit.SOLUTION: The anti-TNF-α agent and the liver protecting agent contain the ginseng fruit itself, an extracted solution obtained by being extracted from the ginseng fruit by water, a hydrated lower aliphatic alcohol or the like, an extract obtained by concentrating the extracted solution, or a compound obtained by separating and refining the extracted solution or the extract. Further, the medicine for a human or an animal, containing the anti-TNF-α agent or the liver protecting agent, and the new saponin compound and the polyphenol compound contained in the ginseng fruit are also provided.
