A device (1) for removing vermin from a container (5) filled with foodstuffs comprises a chamber (7) into which one or more containers may be inserted. For reducing the oxygen content gas can be introduced into the chamber through a gas supply opening.Underneath the chamber is located a receptacle (49) which can be reached via a hatch (51). While the oxygen content is reduced, vermin will flee to the receptacle and finally die there. Subsequently, the receptacle can be emptied in a simple manner.
