Devices and methods for sealing a portion of a wound dressing with a biocompatible coating are disclosed. In some embodiments, the method comprises coating the first surface of the flexible wound contact layer of the wound dressing with a hydrophobic coating. The first surface of the wound contact layer can support multiple electronic components. The method can further include coating the second surface of the wound contact layer opposite the first surface with a hydrophobic coating. The wound contact layer can be formed from a hydrophilic material, at least in part.
