PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide water absorbing resin particles having enhanced liquid permeability while maintaining the absorption/retention amount and water absorption speed, and to provide a method for producing the water absorbing resin particles, and an absorbing article using the water absorbing resin particles.SOLUTION: [1] Modified water absorbing resin particles are obtained by performing polymerization in the presence of water absorbing resin particles (A) containing a crosslinked polymer, 1-10 mass% of a hydrophobic unsaturated monomer (B) based on the amount of the monomer component of the crosslinked polymer in the water absorbing resin particles (A), and a radical polymerization initiator (C). [2] A method for producing modified water absorbing resin particles includes performing polymerization in the presence of water absorbing resin particles (A) containing a crosslinked polymer, 1-10 mass% of a hydrophobic unsaturated monomer (B) based on the amount of the monomer component of the crosslinked polymer in the water absorbing resin particles (A), and a radical polymerization initiator (C).
