PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst for selectively deoxygenating a sulfinyl group of a sulfoxide, and a method for producing a sulfide by selectively deoxygenating the sulfinyl group of the sulfoxide.SOLUTION: The catalyst for deoxygenation of a sulfinyl group (SO) in a sulfoxide comprises ruthenium supported on a support comprising an inorganic oxide, the inorganic oxide comprising at least one of titania and hydroxyapatite. Also provided is a method for producing a sulfide comprising selectively deoxygenating the sulfinyl group (SO) in the sulfoxide in the presence of an oxygen scavenger and also in the presence of the catalyst for deoxygenation.
