A method for controlling a braking mechanism (36, 136) for a supply roll (14) with wrapping material (12, 112) for a round baler that passes through the following phases during its operating cycle: - a first phase wherein, after detection of sufficient crop material in the baling chamber (10), wrapping material is brought up to the baling chamber and introduced into the baling chamber - a wrapping operation - a cutting operation - an ejection operation and - the subsequent phase in which new crop material is fed into the baling chamber (10), whereby the braking mechanism is operated to provide a higher braking force during the wrapping operation than during the first phase. In accordance with the method of the invention, the wrapping operation is started on detection of movement in the wrapping material. This prevents the braking mechanism from being activated prematurely and leaves sufficient time to deactivate the braking mechanism after the wrapping operation.Linvention concerne un procédé de commande dun mécanisme de freinage (36, 136) de rouleau dacheminement (14) de matériau demballage (12, 112) pour une presse à balles cylindriques passant par les phases suivantes pendant son cycle de fonctionnement : - une première phase pendant laquelle, après détection dune quantité suffisante de matériau de récolte dans la chambre de mise en balles (10), le matériau demballage est monté vers la chambre de mise en balles et introduit dans cette dernière - une opération demballage - une opération de coupe - une opération déjection et - la dernière phase pendant laquelle une nouvelle quantité de matériau de récolte est acheminée dans la chambre de mise en balles (10), le mécanisme de freinage étant actionné pour obtenir une force de freinage pendant lopération demballage supérieure à la force de freinage pendant la première phase.
