PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform RF ablation of heart tissue. The method of ablation involves storing in memory a predetermined relationship between the magnitude of damage and the amount of energy for ablation for each of one or more selected temperatures. The processor is used to receive user input indicating the magnitude of damage and tissue temperature. Based on this relationship, the amount of energy consistent with the magnitude of damage and tissue temperature is determined. The ablation probe is controlled to apply an amount of ablation energy that matches the selected damage magnitude.
