PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain the enhancement of safety and the improvement of a purifying effect in an active species generating device for sterilizing and deodorizing an indoor space.SOLUTION: The active species generating device comprises: a body case 4 an insulating substrate 7 that is arranged inside the body case 4 a discharge electrode 12 that is disposed to be separated from the surface of the insulating substrate 7 by a prescribed distance a counter electrode 13 provided in contact with the insulating substrate 7 a power supply 14 that applies voltage to the discharge electrode 12 and the counter electrode 13 and an adsorption means 8 that is applied to cover the insulating substrate 7 and adsorbs moisture in the neighborhood. The insulating substrate 7 has an opening 20, and the opening edge of the opening 20 on the side of the discharge electrode 12 is defined as an expansion sloping surface 21 to be expanded outward and also covered by the absorption means 8.
