The present invention relates to variant antibodies and methods for producing such antibodies with reduced levels of binding to process impurities. In particular, the present invention describes variant IgG4 antibodies that are modified with any one or combination of amino acids in the region between Kabat residues 203-256 in the heavy chain constant region. The variant IgG4 antibody has a lower level of binding to host cell protein (HCP) than the unmodified IgG4 antibody. The present invention also relates to a composition comprising the variant IgG4 antibody.
