To provide water-absorbing particles of a low environmental load.SOLUTION: Water-absorbing particles are spherical particles including polysaccharide. The polysaccharide having a carboxy group only at the 6-position and the reduction terminal is present over the range from the surface to the inside of the water-absorbing particles. The carboxy group is introduced to the water-absorbing particles so that the ratio of an increased amount of water absorbed by the water-absorbing particles having the carboxylated polysaccharide to a total amount of the carboxy group is 1.4 or more.
