A beverage tablet comprising an effervescent system including a base selected from one or more carbonates, bicarbonates, or combinations thereof, where the base is present in an amount of about 5 wt pcnt to about 40 wt pcnt of the tablet and where the tablet self-disperses in an aqueous liquid in less than about three minutes to produce a beverage.
